The 589 will not do RPM. It is a True RMS meter, where the 597 is not.
597 can do RPM. It also has settings for Duty Cycle, Dwell, and Injector Pulse. It includes the IR thermometer.
Current rating for the 597 is higher at 20 amps (only 10amps on the 589)
