An attenuator, such as the Pico 20:1 will reduce the signal, not just the spike.
To compensate for this you tell the scope that you are using a 20:1 so the signal will be scaled as if it has not been reduced.
On a Pico scope you select "20:1 attenuator" from the custom probe list.
