I cannot find a list of 'approved' BAR scan tools, they once had a list and I believe the AE tool was on it.
The BAR seems to have deleted that list.
I called the BAR helpline at 866.860.8509 and was told, "call your local field office."
I asked which document does the field office use to determine whether or not a scan tool is worthy of the BAR, the rep could not tell me which document it was and could not locate it on the BAR site
The AE tool probably does whatever the BAR wants a scan tool to do, but, apparently only the inspector from your local field office can answer the question.
This BAR page seems like a good place to list and describe the requirements for a scan tool but I could not find it: http://www.bar.ca.gov/Industry/Equipm.... (I did not sift through the "BAR-97 Specifications" docs.)
To make it easy for your inspector, ask, "Which scan tools have you approved?"
Once you get that list, create a comparison of those tools with the AE tool.
With that information the inspector should approve the AE tool.
