I suppose with this you have to get a OEM subscription to be able to pull codes from vehicle or does it allow scans
Wanting to know if it can be used to scan codes without having to pay through OEM mfr site or is the OEM part for software programming access?

The unit is intended to work with OEM software purchased via subscription.
You can pull Generic OBD2 codes from the ECM using the inlcuded J2534 ToolBox 3 software. It will not retrieve codes from any other module. This is not meant to be used as a stand alone scan tool, the functions are very limited with OEM software to use with it.
